Until your pavement meets the Beaverton city line, So I would like to direct you all to May 13th, 2004. Biggest game of last year's season. West Linn/Wilsonville was the previous year's state champion. They had beat us the year before pretty handily. They were the team to beat. So we beat them, 7-5, in the best game I had ever seen our team play. Okay so tonight. Sunset was state champion last year. They were undefeated for all of that season, as well as all of their season this year, too. We were the only teams left with zero's on the right side of our standings. Someone was going home with a loss, a 1 instead of a 0. They were the team to beat. So we beat them. "WHAT'S THAT?!" you say (let me see your funky chicken!). "You beat these peeps?" To that, I would reply WE BEAT SUNSET. WE ARE NUMBER ONE IN STATE! You may laugh and say "But there's only 22 varsity teams! That's no feat." It might not be if you've had an established team. My freshman year was the first year for Lincoln to ave a varsity team. In four years we went from the bottom of the league to the top in the state. What? Awesome? That's right. So the game went down like this: in the first two minutes we scored three goals. Then it was kind of back-and-forth bullshit, but we stayed ahead for the entire game. I think that it was 5-3 at half? Something like that. The final score was 8-6. They were coming back in the end, but hell, we pulled it off. Our transitions were solid, we played fucking INCREDIBLE defense, and our attack ran plays that worked. Life is good for the Cardinals. Thanks to all the homies who came out for the game. Sweeney even showed up! How cute. It was a good time. Alyssa's dad bought us all ice cream afterwords. We're the number one team in the state? What? You got that right.
